The ruling Congress is likely to save face as its candidates are leading in two of the 18 Assembly segments. Congress candidates are leading by 1883 votes in Narsapuram and 7674 votes in Ramachandrapuram constituencies. TRS continues to lead in Parakala by a comfortable margin. The YSR Congress is ahead in 14 places, having won one seat (Yemmiganuru).

Counting of votes polled in crucial byelections to 18 Assembly segments and one Parliament seat in Andhra Pradesh begins. Elections were held for Nellore Lok Sabha seat and the Assembly constituencies of Macharla, Ongole, Udayagiri, Tirupati, Anantapur, Rayadurgam, Narsannapet, Payakaraopet, Ramachandrapuram, Narasapuram, Polavaram, Prathipadu, Emmiganuru, Allagadda, Rajampet, Rayachoti, Railway Koduru and Paralaka. The main political parties in the fray are the Congress, the Telugu Desam and the YSR Congress Party. The bypolls to all these seats except Tirupati have been necessitated following the disqualification of the sitting members after they switched loyalties from the Congress to the YSR Congress. Polls in Tirupati were held following the resignation of sitting member Chiranjeevi, who was elected to the Upper House on Congress ticket.
